Download/read on-line: The Secrets of Government & Mysteries of State (1697) by John Milton (1552-1618) & Walter Raleigh (1608-1674)
Old-school regime-change was quite sensible and practical.
Also colonies: "..this Rule or Maxim shall be found true, that Men
must be either kindly intreated, or with all Extremity oppressed ; because of light Injuries they. may be revenged, but of
utter Oppression they cannot."
Tyrannical prince rulers, must strike down dissent hard and fast, without a care. Marxists/Socialists/Communists like Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Pol Pott etc certainly took this to heart.
Where does the 'senator' and 'senate' originate?
Well it would be a 'juvenate' if it wasn't "ancient \& expert persons"!
A Magistrate is an Officer of State having the power to COMMAND. The WTO \& BIS today are "Sovereign \& Absolute, above Laws, above Magistrates, and above People." So to whom to they answer to? π€
The means to Levy Treasure are Four
"The excessive eating of Usury must be oppressed." @DerorCurrency
"All superfluous Charges \& Expenses are to be taken away."
"The doings \& accounts of Ministers are to be (feverally?) to be examined."
The moderating of Interest is ever necessary... @DerorCurrency
The section on dealing with neighbors ought to be core principles of Brexit negotiations, no?
Most states didn't read the memo on this one: πͺπΊπ¬π§πΊπΈ
"not to surcharge the Subjects with infinite Laws; for thereof proceedeth the Impoverishment of the Subjects and the Enrichment of Lawyers, a kind of Men which in Ages more Ancient, did seem of no Necessity"
"Power \& Strength is attained by
these 5 ways, Money, Arms,
Counsel, Friends \& Fortune ;
but of
these the first and most forcible is Money ...
Next to Money Arms are of most use
as well to defend as to offend : to keep, and to conquer;"
Satisfy the People by sacrificing the blood of cruel Ministers to wash away their common hatred. Explain excessive taxation by explaining why levies of money are necessary as an imposition - will take the sting out.
Rest of the book I lost interest, too much on war, but here's some other bits I liked.
