# About samisdat.in

**samisdat**.in is a home for [samizdat](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samizdat) —
preserving and archiving research, materials and publications, especially
[books](https://samisdat.in/books), that are out-of-print, out-of-copyright, no longer available,
or very difficult to find. The aim is to save content from the
[memory hole](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory_hole).

The archive spans historical research, esoteric and hermetic traditions,
survival and self-reliance, political economy, and declassified documents.
We occasionally publish [blog](https://samisdat.in/blog) posts with highlights and summaries,
and more rarely [audio/video](https://samisdat.in/media) content.

The site was created by independent individuals, privately concerned about
the loss of accessible material on mainstream platforms.

> **Note:** Some material on this site is controversial, has been banned or
> censored, or challenges mainstream narratives. Read with your own judgement.

## The Name

The name *samisdat.in* is a tribute to the now-defunct Samisdat Publishing
Company, run by the late Ernst Zündel. This project has no connection or
affiliation, direct or indirect, with Samisdat Publishers or the Zündel family.

## Content Disclaimer

Materials uploaded to this website are not necessarily endorsed. They are made
available primarily because they are difficult to obtain and relevant to
researchers.

## Why This Site Exists

Mainstream platforms — social media, search engines, large digital libraries —
are not neutral. Content is removed, de-ranked, or made inaccessible, often
without transparent criteria. This site is a response to that: a place where
material that is hard to find, no longer in print, or has been removed from
other platforms can be preserved and accessed.

We care about:

- **Preservation** — replicating material at risk of loss (e.g., books
disappearing from the Internet Archive) so it remains available to
    researchers.
- **Critical thinking** — providing resources for independent inquiry into
history, politics, economics, and the human condition.
- **Careful curation** — manually checking and correcting metadata,
compressing files, linearising PDFs for faster loading. We are not simply
    re-uploading files.

## Questions We Ask

- What is history, and who decides what counts as history?
- How does a reader avoid bias and establish a reliable picture of the past?
- How do we evaluate whether evidence is authentic?
- What happens when new evidence contradicts an established narrative?
- Why are certain books and topics banned, and who decides?
- What are the legitimate limits, if any, on publishing and speech?

## Who We Are

Private individuals with an interest in finding out how and why things are
the way they are. We speak for ourselves only, not for any group or
organisation.

## On Disagreement

If you wish to contest our content, [disagree and argue clearly](http://www.paulgraham.com/disagree.html).
We are not building this site for fame or notoriety.

Name-calling, labelling, and coordinated harassment are not productive
dialogue. If you cannot engage with the substance, please just move on.
